Great Weekend of Fishing, Friends, and Cabins

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to travel out to Lake Naconiche and stay in the fantastic cabins at Naconiche Farms Cabins.  I have to take a moment and rave about how awesome the accommodations are at Nac Farms. I was expecting a primitive shack with for walls and a floor, and that would have been fine for an overnight stay to fish my favorite Texas lake. A primitive shack is the farthest thing from what we got when we walked in. The cabins here are beautiful and full furnished. A brief run down of the amenities that these cabins come with: full kitchen, full bathroom with heated floors, sleeps 4, wifi, smart TV with Netflix, propane grill, and direct kayak launch access. this wasn't your typical "roughing it" weekend. Not only is the fishing some of the best in the state, which I will elaborate more on, but theres nothing like being able to come back from a long day on the water and take a hot shower, cook a hot meal and relax in style before doing it all over again. I cannot say enough good things about Phil and and Naconiche Farms Cabins.

Not only is the cabins top of the line but Lake Naconiche is by far some of the best bass fishing in the state of Texas. This particular weekend was no exception! I will admit that none of us caught the lunker we were hoping, but this trip provided quantity over quality in abundance. The vast spread of standing timber proves to be a haven of sheltered bass and you dont have to wait long for that coveted tug of the line. Wilderness Systems Pro Staff Regional Manager Bobby Clark and I were able to get out for a few hours on the water on Friday. We landed somewhere around 8-10 fish each before heading in to get steaks on the grill. Saturday we got on the water early and it was on! I struck first with two 15 inch bass on a crank bait, but Bobby found his hot spot and began to pull them out as fast as he could cast. Bobby started throwing a soft plastic turtle and apparently that was on the menu for the day. After Bobby insist that I switch to a turtle I began pulling them out just as fast. It was one after another all day. Like I said before, no monsters but anywhere from 15-18 inches consistently. It was some of the most fun fishing I've ever experienced.

  1. Looks awesome! Going there this weekend for the first time for a 4 day trip. Soft plastic turtle....hmm can't say I have tried those, but will give them a try if I can find them. The report of the cabins is great was curious about them and now know I will stay there when I return for a 2 day trip and nor have to pull the RV. Thanks again for the review. Any other tips for a first timer and his wife about where to fish what colors etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

    1. Nac is awesome! IMO the cabins are the only way to go there. When you get to the lake just go the the timber covered areas. We threw dark green Doomsday Turtles. I got them from Hook1.com. I also caught several fish on squarebill crankbaits in the thick standing timber diving around 5ft. Enjoy the lake and post your report up here! Thanks for reading

    2. Hey Cody! Thanks for the rapid response. We are very excited about going. Won't have time to order and have delivered as we are leaving tonight. I will try academy and see if they have them . We are taking the rv and going to try a local rv park, if that don't work too well we will definitely try the cabins on the next trip. I do however have arsenal of frogs, soft plastics, creatures, cranks, spinners and punching gear. I am also going to try a little crappie fishing. Thanks again for info, it is greatly appreciated. I will post my trip and how we did upon returning home. Have a great day and always....tight lines.

  2. Lake Naaconiche. My first trip was a bust.....that being said everyone else fishing the lake this weekend did not do any good either. A cool front moved in and the wind was out of the North. I managed to catch 3 fish largest being about 3 lbs. I will be back in the spring with a vengeance. A beautiful lake with alot....I mean alot of standing and fallen timber. Can't wait for spring....I am sure it will be a much better trip. I think I will make it a 5 day trip instead of a 3 day.......be ready Naconiche Bass Man will return.

    1. Sorry it was a bummer weekend. The weather can just be an on/off switch sometimes for those finicky bass. My next trip is already set for spring break. Tight lines
