Product Review: Liquid Skin pro

LIQUID    SKIN

For those of you that have read my blog before, you know that I have written many articles on health and first aid related subjects.  I wrote an article a coupe of years ago on Acute Wound Care and in it I discussed options to close small lacerations while on the water. I talked about a product called Dermabond and Super Glue. What I knew at the time was that these two products are basically the same thing except one is more expensive than the other and is more widely accepted for medical use. Since then I have learned much more about the chemical make up of that differs these two products, and I'll share with you what I've learned.

First, I want to share with you a new product that I happen to run across while on a routine trip to my local Home Depot. This product is called Liquid Skin Pro and It's made by a company called Chemence. This product is of the same chemical make up of Dermabond or Super Glue. It retails for less than five dollars and is more medical grade than regular Super Glue.  I have tried numerous times to contact the company with no success to ask several questions about the chemical make up of their product.

I have actually had the opportunity to use this product my self and I was very happy with the results. First off, I used Dermabond on a regular basis at my "real job" and as good as it works it's expensive and it's a single use per vial. Super Glue is cheap but contains certain solvents that can cause irritation and damage to open wounds. While Super Glue can work in a pinch, it may not be the best option for a cheap solution for acute wound closure.  With Liquid Skin Pro you have a low cost option that has multiple uses per vial. You also get two vials per package, which is a pretty good bang for your buck. Aside from the obvious monetary value of the product, I was pleased with the real world application of the product. I sustained a cut on my thumb and decided to give this product a whirl. Three observations that I had were, the product has more viscosity which means it doesn't run all over the place, it dries quickly, and it stayed on without irritating my skin.

Bottom line, I will choose this product over regular Super Glue but not over expensive Dermabond. I will say I wasn't happy with the customer service of Chemence, but none the less I like the product.

My 2016 Kayak Fishing Goals!

Well 2015 has come and gone, and as I reflect on the year that I've had I can't help but think about the year to come. Last year held a lot of ups and downs, and left me with experiences that I feel that I can draw upon for 2016. I had to learn to find a new normal after the loss of my mother and we proudly welcomed our son, Jack, into our family. That's about as low and high as a year can get.

I am extremely proud to have completed another year as a member of the Wilderness Systems Kayaks Pro-Staff. I am so grateful for the opportunities to learn, contribute, and dive farther into the bowels of this business. Through my connections at Wilderness Systems I was fortunate enough to partner up with the talented craftsmen at Impulse Fishing Rods. I have never been happier or more successful on the water since partnering with the guys over at Impulse. I'm grateful for the various companies that I am talking to for a 2016 partnership, and I look forward to working closely with you.

I feel like I hit or at least came very close to hitting all of my goals this past year. I didn't get out on the water quite as much as I would have liked to, but that's to be expected when a new baby joins the family. My top priority goal every year is to be a great husband to my wife and a great father to my children, and I definitely hit the mark with those. In 2016, I plan to get out on the water more with friends and teammates. I want to explore new waters and try a little more salt water fishing. I hope to get more opportunities to contribute to future projects with Wilderness Systems. I look forward to working with more companies in 2016 and holding a stake in the future development of the kayak fishing landscape.

My most important 2016 goal in my kayak fishing to to become more proficient and to grow as a writer. I'm coming up on my 3 year anniversary of Yak Smack and I'm very proud of where it's at. I plan to double down on my commitment to my blog as well as extend my reach into more notable publications. Throughout the last three years my writing has proven therapeutic and entertaining foe me. Yak Smack continues to grow in readership and I sincerely thank everyone that pays a visit to my humble creation. Here's to tight lines and good health for the year to come.
